Orange Currant Bread Recipe


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg, beaten well
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 3 tbsps. grated orange rind
  • 3 tbsps. butter, melted
  • half cup each of currants and chopped walnuts
  • pinch of salt


Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl put the beaten egg, orange juice, rind and butter and stir well. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until well blended. Stir in the currants and walnuts, then spoon the mixture into a well buttered loaf baking tin. Bake in a moderate oven for about one hour or until firm. Leave to cool and remove from tin. Serve sliced with whipped cream or cr?me fraiche.
